Glossary Everything You need to know when first joining our firm! 16 Phrases for Financial Professionals The words the financial industry uses aren’t always what clients and prospects expect to hear. Appointment Sometimes referred to as “contracting,” an appointment is a formal approval to sell the products of the various companies with which WFG’s affiliated companies have selling agreements. You will need an appointment with a WFG-approved product provider to market its products. To get an appointment, go to MyWFG.com; then go to Tools > Administration & Compliance > Field Manual, and then select a company. Appointment information will be on that page. In Canada, the branch manager is an important part of supervision process. The BM is responsible for overseeing Approved Person activities at the branch level. All associates,*, except New York associates , are required to maintain E&O through the company’s E&O Provider. New York associates must purchase E&O independently. In Canada, the minimum level of coverage may vary by jurisdiction. E&O is a MANDATORY charge pursuant to the Associate Membership Agreement Section II; Subsection J. An associate may not decline coverage for any reason. *Errors and Omissions Insurance is mandatory for: All Securities Appointments (this includes Variable Life and Variable Annuity appointments) Any Life and Term Insurance Appointments Any Property and Casualty Appointments Any Investment Advisory Appointments E-AMA This term refers to the electronic Associate Membership Agreement, the application form that must be completed to join WFG. WFG maintains a proprietary FNA software tool on MyWFG.com under Tools > Financial Needs Analysis. This tool is available to all associates at no charge, though you must be properly licensed and appointed to use it with clients. In Canada, WFG’s FNA is approved for use with insurance clients, but not currently for securities clients. Completing an FNA is an important component part of the insurance financial sales process to because it demonstrates and provides the rationale rational basis for selecting recommending particular financial insurance products, types and amounts of coverage for amounts to a client. Associates can also subscribe to approved third-party FNA tools. Links to currently approved tools are available on MyWFG.com. Associates can also purchase paper data collection forms through the e-store on MyWFG.com. Illustration Use life insurance illustrations to help clients understand the products you are proposing and their potential performance. Keep in mind that life insurance illustrations are hypothetical constructs that show how a particular insurance policy would perform under a given set of financial assumptions which are entered by you. Remember these are assumptions, and there are no guarantees of the numbers. However, they can be very useful tools in illustrating how various policies work and how cash values may function within the policies. Licensing In order to distribute WFG’s approved product’s you will need to get your Life Insurance License and/or Securities License. Using the WFG Field Manual, go to the Life Licensing section and determine the licensing requirements (resident or non-resident) for the state(s) or province(s) in which you wish to be licensed. A life license plus a company appointment will allow you to sell approved life insurance products from providers with whom WFG has selling agreements. The following are examples of different types of products a life licensed associate might be able to sell: Term Insurance Indexed Universal Life (US only) Universal Life Whole Life Fixed Annuities Variable Securities License: U.S. associates who want to sell variable products must obtain their Series 6 (and 63 in some jurisdictions), or other applicables Securities License. A Variable Annuity and/or Variable Life License may also be necessary before an Associate can sell Variable Life or Annuity products. Some states may not have a separate Variable License. HOWEVER, if an Associate wishes to sell variable products, he/she must be FINRA registered in the state of sale regardless of the state license requirement. That process begins by submitting a form U4 to Transamerica Financial Group (TFG). To submit a form U4 to TFG, click here or select Licensing & Training on MyWFG’s main navigation panel. Then select TRAC to initiate the process. Mutual Fund / RESP: In Canada, associates who desire to market securities products must obtain a Mutual Fund license to sell mutual fund products and/or an RESP license in order to market RESP Scholarship Plans. All individuals seeking to market or sell these products must successfully complete required courses and be duly approved by WFG and the applicable regulatory body. The System Manual goes through the specifics in detail. Navigator Navigator is an electronic document management solution available to TFG Branch Office Managers. This solution is used to help simplify recordkeeping, reduce costs and grow your business. Navigator is currently required for WFG Branch Managers in Canada as well. OBA/OIA OBA (Outside Business Activities) or OIA (Other Income Activities), also referred to as OBA (Outside Business Activities), are any business activity other than the business of WFG or TFG, through which a field associate is employed or receives compensation (other than a passive investment). WFG and TFG require that field associates notify the company and obtain written approval prior to engaging in any Outside Business Activity. WFG Securities of Canada Inc. and World Financial Group Insurance agency of Canada Inc. require agents, representatives and Approved Persons to disclose all OBAs or potential OBAs to the Licensing and Registrations department. Not all Canadian jurisdictions permit part-time individuals and some OBAs may preclude an individual from becoming licensed. Some OBAs may require a heightened supervision and client disclosure regimen. Points WFG uses points to determine promotion qualification, as well as for contests and recognition. Points are a measure of production volume, and are accumulated based on the type of product sold and the total compensation to the field from the sale of that product. You are able to track your points through the reports on MyWFG.com. SMD When WFG associates are promoted to Senior Marketing Director (SMD), they become independent from their upline SMDs and can run their own businesses and build their own base shops. SMD is the first big promotion goal to which each new associate aspires. The company begins recognition at the SMD / base-shop level, leaving recognition inside the base shop to the SMD. System Manual The System Manual refers to WFG’s written system or blueprint for business-building, growth and duplication. To access the manual is available on MyWFG.com , select Recruiting & Building on MyWFG’s main navigation panel, then click WFG System Manual, or click here . There is a variation on this approach, entitled The System Builder, which is authored and run by one of WFG’s largest field leaders. You may also hear the System Manual referred to as the Business Format System (BFS). Tap Rooting Tap Rooting is the process a leader uses to help anchor new associates in the business by quickly helping each new recruit bring their first recruits aboard. 3-3-30 The 3-3-30 strategy encourages new associates – and even well-established field leaders – to recruit three new associates and observe three training sales (or for a licensed associate, make three sales) in 30 days. New associates use 3-3-30 to jumpstart their businesses. As they progress in WFG, the 3-3-30 can be used as a benchmark to measure monthly performance. Sources Helping you build your business! Im portance of Life Insurance Financial Strategies for Business Owners Life insurance financial strategies play a crucial role for business owners, providing valuable protection and serving as a key component of their overall financial planning. Here are some important reasons why life insurance is significant for business owners: Protection of Business Assets: Life insurance can be used to protect the business and its assets in the event of the owner's death. It ensures that there are funds available to cover financial obligations such as business debts, loans, and operational expenses. This prevents the business from facing financial difficulties or being forced to liquidate assets to settle outstanding liabilities. Business Succession Planning: Life insurance can facilitate smooth business succession planning. If a business owner passes away, the proceeds from a life insurance policy can be used to buy out the deceased owner's share and provide funds for the transition of ownership to a family member, business partner, or another designated successor. This helps ensure continuity and minimizes disruption to the business operations. Key Person Insurance: many businesses rely heavily on the expertise and contributions of key employees or owners. Key person insurance is a type of life insurance that provides coverage on the life of such a key individual. In the event of their death, the policy's proceeds can be used to offset financial losses, recruit and train replacements, or cover other expenses incurred due to the loss of the key person. Estate Planning: Life insurance can be an effective tool for estate planning purposes. Business owners can use life insurance proceeds to pay estate taxes, ensuring that the business or other assets are not heavily burdened by tax liabilities upon their passing. This allows for the smooth transfer of wealth to beneficiaries while preserving the value of the business. Employee Benefits: Life insurance can be offered as an employee benefit, attracting and retaining talented employees. By providing group life insurance coverage, business owners can offer financial security to their employees and their families. This benefit can enhance employee satisfaction and loyalty, contributing to a positive work environment and overall business success. Collateral for Business Loans: Life insurance policies can serve as collateral for business loans, making it easier for business owners to access credit. Lenders often consider the cash value or death benefit of a life insurance policy as a valuable asset, which can strengthen the owner's creditworthiness and increase the likelihood of loan approval. Tax Advantages: In many jurisdictions, life insurance policies offer tax advantages.
